Welcome to Morbid Planet’s seven days of Halloween destinations and fun!
To celebrate Halloween, everyone’s favorite morbid day of the year, Morbid Planet is going to explore what some cities around the world offer in ways of celebrations, activities and events. We will count down and publish seven different cities before we reach Halloween. Check back daily to see which city we cover. Who knows, maybe we will be looking at what your city has to offer?
Today’s destination city is my hometown, Vancouver, British Columbia that is located in Canada.
One of the most popular places to go in Vancouver to get your spook on is at Fright Nights at Play Land. This is Vancouver’s only amusement park and boasts an awesome wooden roller-coaster that was built back in 1958. I have no idea how many times I have ridden that thing over the years and it never gets boring.

Fright Nights run on select nights from October 5 to 31, 2018 this year. If you are going, make sure to check their calendar online here. They are open later on the weekends. To be honest, I have never gone simply because I know people that have and they complain the lineups are always ridiculous. That tells you how popular it is! The tickets are pretty pricey and a regular one runs you $47 CAD and or a fast-track ticket that helps you avoid the lengthy queues are a $103 CAD each. Admission includes entries to eight haunted houses and access to twenty rides. The haunted house themes look pretty cool. Make sure to check out the Blood Shed, Asylum or the Doll Factory.
If tours are your thing, check out the Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tour. Get driven around Vancouver in a San Francisco style bus and hear morbid tales of The Castelanni Milkshake Murder, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s Lady in Red, The Babes in the Woods and other eerie tales.
They even stop at the Vancouver Police Museum where you get to visit the first city morgue that has handled over 15,000 autopsies over the years. I didn’t know, but apparently they did one on legendary actor Errol Flynn, not that most of you would know who that is unless you are an old movies buff. The last stop on the tour is Mountain View Cemetery, one of Vancouver’s largest cemeteries that has 145,000 bodies buried on 106 acres. Not a bad way to spend an evening. Tickets are $55 CAD each and tours run nightly until Halloween.
If you are a more active person, why not roam the city trying to solve… a murder? Vancouver Mystery Games puts on some special activities for the season. Make sure to join them for Halloween Mystery Nights.
Mystery nights are being held downtown nightly starting at 7 p.m. from now until October 31, 2018. Each game is $27 CAD and lasts about 2 hours. You can play in teams of up to five people and compete with others for prizes. The game plot is described on the website as:
Thirteen years ago Jimmy Capello was found dead in his downtown Vancouver apartment — strangled, poisoned, and stabbed. Now the Police Department has re-opened the cold case and it’s up to you to solve it. Was the killer casino boss Greg Flament? World famous psychiatrist Susan Slater? Or party girl heiress Janet Evans? Armed with your detective kit, a map and a team of your closest friends, you’ll try to prove you have what it takes to work homicide in the big city.
What better way to spend the evening than solving a mystery just like Humphrey Bogart used to do on the big screen!
Anyway, that is it folks. Stay tuned for the next morbid city on our list.
